Early 19th century Italian micro mosaic ring depicting a bird of paradise
An incredible early 19th century Italian micro mosaic ring depicting a bird of paradise. Micro mosaic is a special form of mosaic that uses tiny pieces of hand cut coloured glass to make small figurative images.
A fine antique example from the Grand Tour period. Modelled in high carat gold.
Wonderfully detailed with a rope twist setting, bordered by hoop and bead shoulders with two slender dual bands forming the shank.
UK size G/US size 3.25 – 3.5. Gross weight 2.1g.
A small area of age related wear/loss to the head of the bird. The tablet dips in slightly where some of the glass has worn away, as illustrated by the listing photos. However this doesn’t affect the depiction of the bird or the wearability of the ring. Shank is slightly misshapen, as shown in listing photos.
