A rare 19th century Dutch painted and gilt wood ecclesiastical statue stand

A rare and ornate 19th century Dutch religious statue stand. Constructed in pine with painted decoration and gilt sunburst design.

The arched font reading “Ziet dat hart welke de mensen zo zeer bemint”. This religious passage written in Dutch translates to :- “See that heart which loves people so much”.

The antique stand was made as a backdrop for a large statue of Jesus. The ghosting of where the statue would have sat can still be seen in the base board.

This is certainly an uncommon piece and stunning in its design. This would be a fantastic display piece on its own or even more impressive used in conjunction with a religious statue or large crucifix of your choosing.

The additional small delicate flowers around the border further enhance the stand.

Dimensions :-

1.7m high x 82cm wide

In nice time worn condition with beautiful patina.

The ornate font still in excellent condition with barely any wear or loss. Some small losses to the timber sunburst elements.

Base board has had historic repairs. Structurally sound and ready to be displayed. Some minor movement in joint at base but to expected given it’s age and type of joint used.

Some losses of moulding around base board.
