A rare 1950s vintage medical Smith – Clarke mechanical respirator

A rare vintage 1950s mechanical respirator produced by Smith – Clarke. Originally manufactured from 1955, with this example being used in an intensive care unit.

This particular example was sourced from a museum collection along with several other rare pieces of medial machinery, including a unused Boyle anaesthesia machine.

This makes for quite the talking piece with many interesting controls, switches etc. This hasn’t been power tested and is sold as decorative use / prop use.

All pieces present, including original crank handle and tools.

In good overall condition with some age related wear and tear.

This would be an ideal prop for on screen use and certainly enhance any medical curio collection. “Iron Lungs” are quite sought after and this would grace any serious collection.

97cm wide
103cm high
49.5cm deep

Overall this has survived in good condition considering it did see use for many years.

Some age related wear and tear as expected. Perishing to rubber on one trolley caster.

As mentioned this hasn’t been tested as is sold as for decorative purposes.
